Men's 800m Shines At UWM Pre Conference Tune Up

In their final tune up before next weekend's Conference USA championships, the Marquette men's and women's track and field team competed at the Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Pre-Conference Tune Up at the Klotsche Center Friday night. The Marquette men dominated the 800m, placing the top three runners. Taking first place was freshman Jon Shaffer with a time of 1:56.40. Shaffer's time was just two seconds off of the freshman record and a personal best. Just a hair behind Shaffer was fellow freshman David Henderson who finished turned in a time of 1:56.83. Senior Luke Kunze took third with a time of 1:57.20. Senior Jessie Swan won the 1,000m with a time of 2:58.62 and was followed right behind by junior Jamie Haro who placed second with a time of 3:00.74. Sophomore Crystal Andalcio-O'Neil improved on her personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.68, the best 60m time on the team this season. Sophomore Ryan McAbee set a personal best in the Pole Vault with a mark of 14 feet en route to a second place finish. Freshman Heather Thomason took first place in the Shot Put with a throw of 40 feet 3 inches and set a personal best. It was the best throw by a Golden Eagle this season. The Conference USA Indoor Championships will begin next Friday, Feb. 28 in Houston and will conclude, Saturday, March 1.
