Molly Hanson Sets Freshman Mile Record at Alex Wilson
March 2, 2013
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Distance runner Molly Hanson set the Marquette University women's indoor freshman record in the mile run Saturday afternoon at the Alex Wilson Invitational with a time of 4:48.79.
Hanson's time also registers as the No. 3 indoor women's mark in program history. The Dodgeville, Wis., native finished 10th in the event in the second time she has competed at the Loftus Sports Center this season.
"It was a great day for Molly Hanson, breaking the Marquette freshman record with the old record holder, Cassie (Peller) Nelson, in attendance. I was proud of Molly's performance," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said.
In the men's mile, senior Spencer Agnew notched the No. 11 mark in MU men's indoor history with a personal-best time of 4:10.39 to place 25th overall.
Fellow senior Kyle Winter placed 21st in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.59.
"Kyle ran the second-fastest time of his career this afternoon. He executed our race plan through the first 600 meters the way we wanted but he just didn't have the finishing kick he needed," Rogers said.
Cheldon Brown also competed in the men's hight jump, but failed in all three attempts to clear the bar at 2.06 meters.
"It was a good showing overall and I am happy with the way we wrapped up the indoor season and now we will turn our attention outdoors. It was nice to see Kyle, Cheldon and Spencer finish their indoor careers this afternoon," said Rogers.
