March 6, 2010
MILWAUKEE - Senior 800-meter runner Sarah Verdoliva bettered her own school record on the final weekend of the indoor track and field season at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. "Sarah Verdoliva breaking her school record in the 800 meters was definitely the highlight of the day," head coach Bert Rogers said. "She executed her race plan well and had a strong finish to her race." Verdoliva improved upon her school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.52. Senior Erynn James fell short in her attempt to reach an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the high jump on Friday evening, reaching a height of 1.71 meters (5-feet-7 1/4 inches). "Erynn really had a great indoor season and we have been working on her approach. It will pay off down the line for her," Rogers said. In the men's high jump, freshman Cheldon Brown failed to reach a height with the bar set at two meters to begin competition. Freshman Kyle Winter placed 16th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.73 seconds. "WIth Kyle we have been working to build his endurance and it was good to get some more work in for both Kyle and Cheldon," Rogers said. At the Iowa State NCAA Qualifier, Jonathan Kusowski and Jeff Kluge finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the weight throw. Kusowski reached a distance of 16.95 meters (55-feet-7 1/2 inches), while Kluge's toss reached 16.63 meters (54-feet-6 3/4 inches)
In the shot put at ISU, Rachel Thiel placed ninth in the shot put with a distance of 13.64 meters (44-feet-9 inches). Marquette will begin the outdoor season on Friday, March 19 at USF's Bulls Invitational. |
