Daniel Armstrong Named Second Team All-American

March 10, 2018

Marquette University sophomore high jumper Daniel Armstrong earned Second Team All-American honors after placing 15th at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday.

Armstrong started things off with a clearance at the opening height (2.10m/6-10.75 feet) on his second attempt. He would bow out of the competition after three narrow misses, brushing the bar at 2.15 meters (7-0.5 feet) and placing 15th overall. USC's Randall Cunningham won the event with a mark of 2.29 meters (7-6 feet).

The Michigan City, Indiana, native was the first indoor national qualifier since 2015 when Wally Ellenson ('16) placed third - also in the high jump.

Armstrong now sets his sights on outdoor season and qualifying for his second-straight NCAA West Prelim meet in May with hopes to qualify for his first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

As a team, the Golden Eagles, who both finished runner-up at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships last month, will send select individuals to begin outdoor competition at the UNF Spring Break Invitational on March 23.
