Koecks Lead Marquette Throwers at USF Bulls Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. - Siblings Kathryn and William Koeck led a group of Marquette University throwers to new personal bests Thursday afternoon in the hammer throw at the USF Bulls Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
William Koeck won the hammer throw and finished just one centimeter shy of the Marquette record with a distance of 188 feet, 8 inches (57.52 meters). Koeck notched a personal best on his first throw of the afternoon and recorded his longest mark, the No. 2 distance in Marquette history, on his second toss.
Junior Kathryn Koeck also etched her name second in the hammer throw in the Marquette women's record book with a top distance of 193 feet, 3 inches (58.91 meters) to place second.
In addition to the Koecks, redshirt senior David Carbajal and Samantha Kennedy qualified for the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the hammer throw on Thursday. Carbajal, who will also compete Friday in the shot put, notched a new personal best to place fifth, while Kennedy was seventh in the women's event.
The majority of the meet will take place on Friday, beginning with the men's javelin at 8:30 a.m. CT.
