ATHENS, Ga.-- Senior Scott Mueller took home first place in the 5,000-meter run as the Marquette track and field squad concluded the first day of competition at the Georgia Relays.

Mueller ran a BIG EAST qualifying time of 14:41.78 in the 5,000 to beat the runner-up by almost 20 seconds. Freshman Blake Johnson finished third with a time of 15:07.57 and Brice Cleland, Patrick Keeley, Drew Craig and Dominick Rosario finished fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh, respectively.

In the 1,600-meter sprint relay, the team of Tyler O'Brien, Nick Van Deraa, Michael O'Brien and Eric Meissner finished third after combining to run a time of 3:24.84.

In the men's hammer throw, junior Jeff Kluge recorded a BIG EAST qualifying distance and personal record of 54.86 meters (180-01) to finish fifth. Sophomore Jonathon Kusowski also recorded a BIG EAST mark with a distance of 49.04 meters (160-11) to finish ninth.

Joseph Kohut and David Carbajal finished eighth and ninth in the shot put, respectively, reaching distances of 13.82 meters (45-04.25) and 13.19 meters (43-03.25).

In the women's 5,000 meters, a group of four MU women finished in places 8-11 as Anna Weber led the way with a time of 17:54.58.

 

 

Senior Jessica Ehlen and junior Kelley Corcoran each recorded BIG EAST marks of 52.98 meters (173-70) and 47.47 meters (154-09), respectively. Ehlen's toss was good for second place, while Corcoran finished seventh. Corcoran also finished fourth in the shot put, reaching a distance of 12.11 meters.

In the triple jump, Alyssa Davis finished fourth with a leap of 11.60 meters. James Muehleman finished eighth in the men's triple jump.

The squad will return to action tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. ET and conclude following the men's 1,600-meter relay at 5:40 p.m.
