CINCINNATI – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams were back in action on Friday at the University of Cincinnati’s Oliver Nikoloff Invitational where Samantha Kennedy and Elisia Meyle each picked up event victories.

Kennedy won the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 54.01 meters (177 feet, 2 inches), while senior Kristen Gaffey was fourth with a heave of 48.89 meters (160-05).

Kennedy won the javelin at the same meet last year and picked up her first victory of this outdoor campaign in the hammer by tying her personal best at the USF Invitational on Thursday, March 13.

Meyle captured the women’s 10,000-meter run crown in a time of 36:46.22 and was followed by senior Rebecca Pachuta in second place (36:51.26), both of whom notched new personal-best times.

Junior Bret Hardin led a trio of MU men in the hammer throw with a third place finish, and Blake Lawson topped three MU runners with an 11th-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.

Freshman John Krzyszkowski begins action on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT from Coy Field in the javelin. Krzyszkowski broke Marquette’s program record to win the event in his first collegiate meet at the USF Invitational and has his eyes set on bigger marks this weekend.

The final field event on Saturday is slated to take place with the women’s high jump at 1:30 pm. CT and track events will run through the women’s 4x400-meter relay at 3:24 p.m. CT.
