LOS ANGELES - Several solid performances were on display on day one of Marquette's annual trip to Southern California as athletes competed at the Cal State LA Twilight Open, the Mt. SAC Relays and Azusa Pacific on Thursday night.

At Cal State, Cassy Goodrich ran an impressive time in the women's 100-meter dash, becoming only the fifth Golden Eagle, and first since Carlye Schuh in 2014, to break 12 seconds by turning in a personal-best time of 11.96 seconds. The time was good for 10th place overall and ranks No. 5 all-time at MU, while improving on her third-fastest time in the BIG EAST this season.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Karl Tatum, Jay Whalen, Connor Boos and Brandon Bell won their heat on the way to a fifth place finish.

Also in action was Wally Ellenson, who won his third straight high jump competition in as many weeks. The senior sat for a while before entering the competition at 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8.75 inches) and cleared it with ease on his first attempt. He would clear 2.10 meters (6 feet, 10.75 inches) on his second jump and remained the last competitor before missing three close chances at 2.15 meters (7 feet, 0.5 inches).

At the Mt. SAC Relays, William Hennessy ran his second-fastest steeplechase all-time with a mark of 9:25.

At Azusa Pacific, Kayla Spencer (17:00.02) and Clare McDonald (17:01.13) ran in tandem on the way to each setting personal-best marks in the 5,000-meter run.
