WALNUT, Calif. -- The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition out in California, but not before putting forth several more impressive performances before returning home.

Freshman Cassy Goodrich was sensational in breaking an 18-year-old record in the 200-meter dash and helping the 4x400-meter relay team to a win after an impressive split time. She wasn't the only one coming home following great performances, though.

"It was an awesome weekend out here in California," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We had a lot of great performances. We always expect that we're going to come out here and have solid performances and this year was no exception.

"The sprint ladies excelled especially," "We had some fast times in the 200 and then the 4x400 relay coming out and winning at the end. Both Cassy's and Anna's splits were really fast -- fastest I've ever coached."

The 4x400-meter relay team won the event at The Beach Invitational for the second-straight year with a time of 3:44.98. This time around it was the efforts of Arra Strong, Katie Tolan, Anna Strong and Goodrich that made it all possible. The latter two displayed split times of a blazing 53.6 and 53.9 seconds, respectively.

Goodrich also set the school record in the 200-meter dash, breaking an 18-year-old mark in the process. Her time of 24.36 seconds surpasses Karen Goodwin's mark from 1997 by just a hair. Anna Strong was right behind with a PR of 25.06 seconds, while Arra Strong just missed her fastest-ever time with a mark of 25.57 seconds and Terica Harris won her heat with a PR of 25.38 seconds.

Also at The Beach Invite, Nicole Ethier ran the third-best time of her career in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.71, while Krista McClure crossed the time in 2:15.40. For the men, Alec Miller set a PR with a time of 1:51.98.

In the high jump, Bridget Bodee and Omo Tseumah both cleared 5 feet, 5 inches. For Bodee, it was a PR.

Nicholas Ebert ran a season-best time of 49.09 in the 400 meters, while Joshua Word ran a PR of 11.22 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

The team will return home and prepare for next weekend's events that will see some take part at the Benedictine Twilight in Lisle, Illinois and others at the historic Drake Relays, April 24-25.
