MU Concludes Action in California at Beach Invitational

NORWALK, Calif. – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up a successful weekend in California on Saturday evening at the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Katie Kemmerer, Gretchen Homan, Kate Hein and Anna Strong won the event in a time of 3:44.67 to set the No. 4 mark in Marquette history. All four also ran the 200-meter dash, in which Kemmerer finished in 25.54 seconds, for the second-fastest time of her career. Strong also recorded a personal best in the event at a mark of 25.63 seconds to place 39th while Kemmerer was 33rd.
Freshman Omo Tseumah placed fourth in the women’s high jump at a height of 1.70 meters (5 feet, 7 inches) and sophomore Kellie Greenwood also recorded a top-10 finish in the women’s 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 17:04.40 (seventh place).
In the women’s 800-meter run, Alison Parker set the Marquette freshman record with a time of 2:10.92, which also registers as the fourth-fastest mark in program history. Parker placed 14th in the event ahead of teammates Nicole Ethier (47th in 2:13.50) and Kayla Spencer (53rd in 2:14.14).
Anton Rice placed 10th in the men’s 800-meter run at time of 1:51.26, which also sits 10th all-time at MU.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 25 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
