LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams concluded a long weekend of competition Sunday evening at the Phil Esten Challenge at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis., with seven distance runners in action.

Christina Sliepka captured first place in the 10,000-meter run to lead four Marquette women at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a personal-best time of 37:26.06. Freshman Sarah Poirier and junior Rebecca Pachuta followed Sliepka in second and third place. Junior Hannah Frett finished sixth.

In the men's 10,000, freshman Cody Haberkorn (32:02.68) placed fourth, while Marc DiVerde was 12th in 32:50.62.

Freshman Patrick Campbell was the lone athlete to participate in the 5,000-meter run and finished in a time of 16:01.29.

The Golden Eagles competed in three states over four days this weekend at five different meets. A sixth meet at Cal State LA was cancelled on Thursday after a bomb threat shut down the Los Angeles campus.

The highlight of the weekend for Marquette was redshirt senior Jack Hackett, who vaulted up the NCAA qualifying list with a very impressive time of 14:05.66 in the 5,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. His time was almost 10 seconds faster than his previous PR of 14:14.45, which he set at the same meet last season.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 26 at the Benedictine Twilight in Lisle, Ill.
