DES MOINES, Iowa - The women's 4x800m relay team broke a nine-year old school record tonight at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Ia. The tandem of Michaela Courtney, Kristina Malin, Kaitlyn Chambers, and Cassie Peller clocked 8:55.69, besting the old mark of 8:56.11.

"It was exciting to break a record that has stood for almost a decade." said head coach Dave Uhrich. "Michaela did a great job on the opening leg, handing off the baton right in the mix, and Kristina, Kaitlyn and Cassie continued with three good legs."

The Golden Eagles were sixth overall in the race. Michigan captured the 4x8 in a time if 8:39.59.

Also competing today at Drake was Terri Emond, in the 3,000m steeplechase. Emond was 11th overall in a time of 10:53.18, missing the NCAA Regional qualifying time by just over three seconds.

"I was happy with Terri's run today." Uhrich said. "It was her second-best run of the season in a very competitive field."

Tomorrow, the men's sprint medley and women's 4x1,600m relays compete, as well as Jessica Ehlen in the hammer throw.
