WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Marquette University men's and women's track and field team concluded its final tune-up leading up to the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Championships with the Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue University, Saturday, May 2.

Competition began Friday night, May 1, with the hammer throw and the Golden Eagles saw great success from their 1-2 punches on both the men's and women's side. William Koeck (60.05 meters; 197-0 feet) and Bret Hardin (57.92 meters; 190-0 feet) took second and third place, respectively.

On the women's side, Kathryn Koeck continued her impressive senior season with another victory in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 59.5 meters (195-2 feet). Samantha Kennedy was close behind, taking third with a distance of 54.58 meters (179-1 feet).

Saturday's events were highlighted with a Wally Ellenson win in the high jump. The reigning BIG EAST Indoor high jump champion finished his final tune-up with a jump of 2.16 meters (7-1).

In the javelin throw and Joel Swanberg set a personal record with a toss of 45.09 meters to place fourth.

In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Taylor Keating (16.56 seconds) and Jnana Martin (17.39 seconds) both set PRs for the Golden Eagles. On the men's side, it was Daniel Sweeney (16.16 seconds) and Will Eggers (17.46 seconds) also setting personal-best marks.

In the women's 400-meter run, Katie Tolan took sixth place with a time of 57.04 seconds. On the men's side, Anton Rice ran a season-best and placed fourth with a time of 49.74 seconds. Will Eggers finished two spots behind with a time of 51.29 seconds and Michael Corr took seventh in 52.32 seconds.

Elisia Meyle set a PR in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:42.51, while Kenzie Vicker was close behind at 4:49.50.

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Abigail Busse took seventh place with a time of 12:06.74.

Dwayne Dash leaped 23 feet, 2.75 inches in the long jump to take third place. Cory Cegelski recorded a season-best 21-7.25 to place seventh.

On the women's side, Terica Harris and Tatyana Pashibin tied for sixth place with a leap of 17 feet, 8 inches.

Another tie for the Marquette women occurred in the pole vault when Gemma Tedeschi and Nicole Jaffke vaulted 11 feet, 6.5 inches to take seventh place.

The BIG EAST Outdoor Championships hosted by Villanova are up next for Marquette, which are set to take place in Philadelphia Saturday, May 8-Sunday, May 9.
