Koecks Place Fourth in Hammer Throw on Day One of BIG EAST Meet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Siblings Kathryn and William Koeck notched top-four finishes on Friday afternoon to lead Marquette in the first day of action at the 2013 BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Piscataway, N.J., at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
Kathryn Koeck began the day of competition with a fourth-place finish in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 182 feet, 7 inches (55.57 meters). The Winneconne, Wis., native earned the MU women five points in the first event of the 2013 championships after earning one point while placing eighth in 2012.
Sophomore William Koeck also earned a fourth-place finish in the men's event with the third-best distance of his career. Koeck reached a mark of 194 feet, 7 inches (59.31 meters) to earn the MU men five points after finishing 13th in the event in 2012 as a freshman.
Redshirt senior David Carbajal topped his previous personal best by six feet in the hammer with a distance of 175 feet (53.35 meters). Carbajal's mark is good for 10th all-time in MU history.
Action resumes at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday at the Bauer Track and Field Complex with the decathlon, while redshirt junior Patrick Stuart will be the first Marquette athlete to compete in the shot put at 10 a.m. CT.
