Track and Field Concludes Competition Prior to NCAA West Preliminary Round

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams finished competition prior to the West Preliminary Round of the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday evening at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. and the Cardinal Twilight in Louisville, Ky.
Freshman Carlye Schuh was the lone event winner of the weekend for the Golden Eagles with a leap of 18 feet, 10 1/2 inches (5.75 meters) to win the long jump at the Dr. Keeler Invitational. Schuh set the Marquette women's long jump record on April 30 at the Stan Lyons Invitational.
Junior Blake Johnson came within almost a second of his personal best in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:06.36.
Freshman Sarah Ball also recorded a top-five finish at the Dr. Keeler Invitational with a time of 2:14.22 in the women's 800-meter run.
At the Cardinal Twilight, senior Alyssa Davis was Marquette's top finisher with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump in 39 feet, 2 1/4 inches (11.94 meters).
The Golden Eagles return to action May 26 at the West Preliminary Round of the 2011 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
