May 25, 2012
AUSTIN, Texas - Senior sprinter Tyler O'Brien of the Marquette University men's track and field team ran a time of 21.73 seconds Friday evening in the first round of the men's 200-meter dash at the West Preliminary Round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas.
"Tyler wrapped up a really fine career here at Marquette and he meant a lot to the program," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We are proud to have him qualify and compete at this regional meet."
O'Brien got off to a slow start out of the blocks and was unable to recover while fighting with a tight right hamstring. The Rocky Hill, Conn., native finished seventh in his preliminary heat of the 200 and 41st overall in the event.
O'Brien ends his standout career with the Golden Eagles as the program record-holder in the indoor and outdoor 200 as well as the indoor 300-meter dash.
