AUSTIN, Texas – William Koeck and Jack Hackett each improved on their seeded marks entering competition Saturday at the West Preliminary Rounds of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Originally slated to compete on Friday at 2 p.m. in the men’s hammer throw, Koeck kicked off the day’s action for Marquette with a 32nd-place finish with a top throw of 188 feet, 9 inches (57.53 meters). The event was pushed back a day after severe thunderstorms swept through Texas during Friday afternoon. Koeck’s throw, his third and final attempt of the day, placed him fourth in the first flight of the morning.
The Winneconne, Wis., native entered the meet ranked 38th in the NCAA West Region and topped his seeded placement by six spots.
Hackett topped his seed by one spot with a 39th-place finish in the men’s 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:53.57. The Port Washington, Wis., native placed 21st in the second heat to end his career in Blue and Gold.
The Golden Eagles were represented by their largest contingent of student-athletes at an NCAA regional event since they sent eight to Austin in 2010.
