AMES, Iowa - Senior Jeff Kluge led the Marquette throwers at the Iowa State University Holiday Preview Friday, recording a distance of 17.77 meters in the weight throw, good for second all-time in the Marquette record books.
"We had a lot better meet than last weekend," associate head coach Michael Koenning said. "Jeff Kluge reached a BIG EAST mark in the weight throw and I thought Rachel Thiel threw pretty well. I think we are ready to go into break and think about what we are doing and come out and be even better in January."
Kluge moved into second place on the all-time on Marquette list in the weight throw with a throw of 17.77 meters. Also moving up on the MU list with his performance in the weight throw was Jonathan Kusowski with a toss of 17.22 meters to move into seventh place.
Kluge was also the Golden Eagles' top finisher in the shot put, placing sixth with a BIG EAST qualifying distance of 15.32 meters. Joseph Kohut and Eric Matuszewski finished eighth (14.40 meters) and ninth (14.30 meters), respectively.
Senior captain Rachel Thiel finished fifth in the shot put with a BIG EAST qualifying distance of 14.06 meters.
In the weight throw, senior Kelley Corcoran placed fourth with a distance of 15.50 meters to qualify for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, while Thiel finished ninth with 14.41 meters.
