MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams will kick off 2013 at the Badger Track Classic on Saturday, Jan. 12 in Madison, Wis., at the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center.
Events at "The Shell" are slated to begin at noon with the field events and at 1 p.m. on the track with the trials of the men's 60-meter hurdles. Competition is expected to continue throughout the afternoon through the day's final event, the women's 4x400-meter relay, at 4:08 p.m.

"The goal for us this weekend is to shake off any rust from winter break and get back into the swing of competition," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. "The team generally shows some rust the first meet after break, and I would expect to see a little of that again this year. Although not always expected this early, we could see a couple of big performances this weekend."
The Golden Eagles opened the 2012-13 indoor campaign at Notre Dame's Blue & Gold Invitational on Dec. 7 at the Loftus Sports Center with a group made up of mostly jumpers and sprinters. This weekend's travel party features the first appearances of the season for the throwers and most of the distance runners.
Senior Cheldon Brown and junior Michael Saindon return in the high jump after positive performances at the Blue & Gold Invitational. Brown won the event with a new personal best, while Saindon placed second. They will be joined once again in the event by freshman Max Kilpin.
Sprinter Kyle Winter will aim for the Marquette indoor record in the men's 600-meter run and is among those under consideration to run the men's 4x400-meter relay. Winter won the 600 at both the Badger Track Classic and the Milwaukee dual meet in 2012 and came up just one-hundredth of a second shy of the program record at Milwaukee with a time of 1:19.21.
Junior Bret Hardin and senior captain David Carbajal lead the throwers into their first action of the season. Hardin set the No. 5 weight throw mark in program history last season, while sophomore Will Koeck notched the freshman record in the event as well.
Hardin and Koeck will compete solely in the weight throw, while Carbajal will participate in the weight throw and join fellow Patrick Stuart in the shot put.
Junior Carlye Schuh will look to improve upon her No. 4 mark in program history in the triple jump, while also assisting the sprinting squad in the 60-meter dash.
Freshman Molly Hanson is expected to make her debut on the track for MU, where she will compete in the 1,000-meter run, as well as a potential appearance in the women's 4x400 relay.
