Track Heads to First Meet of 2012 at the Badger Track Classic
Jan. 13, 2012
Season Previews: MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field team will return to action for their first meet of 2012 at the Badger Track Classic in Madison, Wis., on Saturday, Jan. 14. Events at the Camp Randall Sports Center begin at 11 a.m. with the women’s pole vault and weight throw along with the men’s and women’s long jump. Running events commence with the men’s 60-meter hurdles on the track at noon. Highlighting action on the women’s side is the return of sophomore Carlye Schuh in the long jump after setting the Marquette outdoor record during her first outdoor campaign in 2011. Chanel Franklin also gets back to the track and will look to improve upon her No. 5 mark in program history in the women’s 200-meter dash. Olivia Johnson and Sarah Ball, fifth and sixth, respectively, in MU history in the 1,000-meter run will look to top those career bests. Blake Johnson, Jack Hackett and Spencer Agnew, the three active members of the top-10 list in the 3,000-meter run, will compete in the event along with nine other MU men.
The men’s weight throw will also be an anticipated event for Marquette as former high school All-American Bret Hardin makes debut with the 35-pound weight. Saturday’s meet will mark the first competition of the season for the Marquette distance runners and throwers. The Golden Eagles join meet-host Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater and BIG EAST-rival DePaul as the four competing teams at The Shell. Live results are available, courtesy of UWBadgers.com. Marquette Women
