Jan. 14, 2010
MU's Meet Entries | Meet Schedule MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field squads will return to action on Jan. 16 at the Badger Quadrangular in Madison, Wis., at the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center.
"Training has been going pretty well (over winter break) as we are working to sharpen up and shake off the rust," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We are looking forward to being at a four-team scored meet and get out there and compete." The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with the women's long jump followed by the rest of the field events. The running events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. with the men's 60-meter hurdle trials and will conclude after the men's 4x400-meter relay at 3:20 p.m. Prior to the winter break, the Golden Eagles competed in two meets, the Blue and Gold Invitational at Notre Dame and the Iowa State University Holiday Preview. At Notre Dame, seven individuals captured event titles, while 12 recorded marks qualifying them for the 2010 BIG EAST Indoor Championships. Sophomore-transfer Jack Hackett, made a good first impression at MU by winning the mile in a time of 4:12.54, a mark that ranks him first among all BIG EAST competitors so far this season. Freshman Kyle Winter and Spencer Agnew also put on good first showings for MU, winning the 500-meter dash and setting the Marquette freshman record in the 3,000-meter run, respectively.
Agnew will look to better his mark in the 3,000 meters this weekend, while Winter will focus on the 600 meters. For the women, senior Jayne Grebinski will make her return to the track after climbing the MU record book in 2009. The Regina, Saskatchewan native will compete in the 3,000-meter run along with Amanda Beggs, Olivia Johnson, Courtney Kelly, Bekki Misanin, Christina Sliepka and Carly Windt. Along with Grebinski, the runners who logged significant time during the 2009 cross country season will make their season debuts this weekend. Senior Erynn James will compete in the high jump, looking to better her school record in the event and qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships after just barely missing an NCAA-qualifying mark at the Blue and Gold Invitational.
