MU: Indoor Top-10 List

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams resume indoor action this Saturday, Jan. 21, competing at the John Tierney Classic hosted by UW-Milwaukee.

“This meet is always a nice one to kick off the year,” Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. “This one checks all the boxes for a good opener. It’s local, so that will give everyone a chance to compete and let friends and family nearby the opportunity to come to cheer us on.”

The Golden Eagles, who have already competed in a pair of indoor meets this season, will race against the likes of Illinois-Chicago, Loyola-Chicago and host UW-Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center on Saturday. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. followed by running events at 1 p.m.

MU kicked off the season with the Blue & Gold Invitational at Notre Dame back on Dec. 2 and junior Cassy Goodrich wasted no time setting her first school record of the season. Already the record holder in both the indoor 200- and 400-meter dash events at MU, the Franksville, Wisconsin, native set the new standard in her first collegiate 600-meter run with a time of 1:33.01.

Marquette recorded four wins on the day, including Goodrich anchoring the winning 4x400-meter relay team that included Arra Strong, Monique Felix and Anna Strong. Dwayne Dash Jr. won the long jump (7.29 meters) and Djdade Denson secured the win in the triple jump (14.14 meters).

Terica Harris became MU’s first BIG EAST weekly award winner (Dec. 14), earning field athlete of the week honors following a pair of personal-best performances in the long jump and 55-meter dash at UW-Parkside. The Savannah, Georgia, native won the long jump (5.70 meter), while taking second in the 55-meter dash (7.21 seconds).

Marquette finished the UW-Parkside meet with the men’s and women’s sides each winning 12 of 18 events.

The Golden Eagles competed at the John Tierney Classic last season, totaling nine individual wins combined, including six on the women’s side, while both teams registered a win in the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay.

Following Saturday’s action, Marquette will head to the Jack Johnson Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, Jan. 27-28.
