Marquette Heads to Ames For Bill Bergan Invitational

Track and field action begins 9:30 a.m. Sat.

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams return to action Saturday, Jan. 28 at Iowa State University's third annual Bill Bergan Invitational, hosted at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.

Competition begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the men's weight throw, where Marquette senior Jonathan Kusowski will make his long awaited return to the ring after earning a redshirt in 2011.

Kusowski was forced to miss the first two meets of this season with a lingering injury, but is ready to build on his personal best mark of 58 feet, 4 inches (17.78 meters), the thid-best mark in Marquette annals.

Junior Kyle Winter, who has already notched the No. 2 and No. 4 times this season in the 600- and 1,000-meter runs, respectively, will compete for the first time this year in the 800 where he holds the thid-best time at MU.

Sprinter Tyler O'Brien will look to better his program record 21.75 seconds in the 200-meter dash and run the 4x400-meter relay along with Winter.

On the women's side, senior Stephanie Grant will run the 400 for the first time this season, where she will be joined by classmate Jenny Zahn and sophomores Gretchen Homan and Katie Kemmerer.

Sophomore Carlye Schuh notched Marquette's fourth-best triple jump mark at the dual meet with Milwaukee last weekend and will compete in that event along with the long jump, where she also ranks foruth at MU.

The Invitational will feature Wisconsin, Missouri, Kansas State, Norh Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and the Minnesota men's team in addition to Marquette and the meet-host Cyclones.
