Official BIG EAST release

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Gemma Tedeschi has been named Field Athlete of the Week by the BIG EAST Conference, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The Palmer Lake, Colorado native set an indoor personal-best en route to taking second place in the pole vault event at the John Tierney Quad at UW-Milwaukee last Saturday, Jan. 23.

In her season debut, Tedeschi’s mark of 3.70 meters (12 feet, 1.5 inches) tied for second all-time at MU and also matched the previous meet record entering the day, set by former Marquette pole vaulter and current volunteer assistant coach Lauren Darnall back in 2011.

Tedeschi earned All-BIG EAST honors as a freshman last season, placing third at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with an outdoor personal-best mark of 3.81 meters (12 feet, 6 inches).

She and the rest of the Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday-Saturday, Jan. 29-30, when they compete at the Jack Jennett Open and Mark Messersmith Team Invite, both hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.
