McBride, Felix Named BIG EAST Field Athletes of the Week

NEW YORK – Following a pair of personal-best performances at the Jack Johnson Classic in Minnesota last weekend, senior Joel McBride and sophomore Monique Felix were each named BIG EAST Field Athlete of Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

McBride collects his first weekly accolade after setting a career-best mark and placing sixth in the weight throw at the Jack Johnson Classic on Saturday. The Zion, Illinois, native tossed a distance of 17.77 meters (58 feet, 3.75 inches), which was No. 6 all-time at Marquette and currently ranks as the second-longest throw in the BIG EAST this season.

Felix collects her fourth BIG EAST weekly award, including her third indoor honor, after shattering her personal-best mark in the pentathlon on Friday. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native won two events (shot put, 800 meters) on her way to totaling 3,603 points. Her point total currently ranks tops in the BIG EAST, 43rd out of 95 in the NCAA, and No. 2 all-time at Marquette. 

The Golden Eagles are back in action this weekend with many competing at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame, Feb. 3-4, and several others taking part at the UW-Parkside Classic, Feb. 4.
