Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Maxwell Bullard has been named BIG EAST Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today. This is the first such award for Bullard and the third for Marquette men’s and women’s field athletes combined.

The Overland Park, Kansas native, has had a tremendous start to his Golden Eagle career following a year at Johnson County C.C. He set personal-best marks in both the weight throw and shot put over the weekend in a pair of meets hosted by Northern Iowa.

Bullard took fourth place in the weight throw at the Jack Jennett Open on Friday with a toss of 16.28 meters (53 feet, 5 inches). He then followed it up at the Mark Messersmith Invitational on Saturday with a fifth-place finish and an even farther mark of 16.47 meters (54 feet, 0.5 inch). The latter throw was the fourth-best mark in the conference this year.

Also on Saturday, he took seventh in the shot put with a distance of 14.57 meters (47 feet, 9.75 inches), which ranks second in the BIG EAST this season.

Bullard and many of his teammates will compete at the Ranger Classic hosted by UW-Parkside on Saturday, Feb. 6, while others will head to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational Friday-Saturday, Feb. 5-6.
