NEW YORK – Marquette University junior William Koeck was named the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after shattering the Marquette program record in the weight throw at the Jack Jennett Invitational on Friday, Jan. 31 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Koeck’s toss of 20.11 meters (65 feet, 11.75 inches) is the top mark in the BIG EAST this season and currently ranks 24th in NCAA Division I. His distance won the event by over 10 inches and broke MU’s previous record by almost a meter.

The junior also competed in the shot put and was eighth overall.

The Winneconne, Wis., native sits above teammate Bret Hardin on the BIG EAST performance list and the duo has won two of the first three BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week awards in 2013-14.

Hardin captured the first men’s award on Jan. 22 while MU long jumper Carlye Schuh and high jumper Omo Tseumah captured the first two weekly women’s field awards on Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, respectively.
