MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams return to action in one final tune-up prior to next weekend’s BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet on Friday, Feb. 8 in Allendale, Mich.

Almost 2,500 meet entries will descend upon the Kelly Family Sports Center for competition Friday and Saturday. Marquette will compete in the invitational sections on Friday, which begin with the first of five sections in the women’s 5,000-meter run at 10 a.m. Central time. Junior Abby Croft and other student-athletes in the women’s pole vault will kick off action in the field events at 2 p.m. CT.

Events are expected to conclude Friday evening following the men’s 4x400-meter relay at around 7:30 p.m. CT.

Senior Kyle Winter will make a final attempt at setting the Marquette program record in the indoor 600-meter run this weekend. Winter sits just one-hundredth of a second away from the all-time MU record of 1:19.20 and will compete in the event for the third time this season.

The Wales, Wis., native took fifth in the 800-meter run last weekend at the Meyo Invitational with a new personal-best mark of 1:50.36, placing him 29th in all of NCAA Division I in 2012-13.

Freshman Molly Hanson is set to run the women’s mile for the first time in her Marquette career at GVSU. Hanson has been competing in the 800 and 1,000 meters this season and is MU’s freshman record holder in the 800.

Junior women’s jumper Carlye Schuh will look to get back on the leaderboard after posting fouls in both the long jump and triple jump last weekend at the Meyo Invitational.

Freshman Andres Tineo Paz posted a personal-best time competing in the 5,000-meter run at Meyo and will focus on the mile at GVSU, where he will compete with fellow freshman Patrick Campbell and seniors Connor Callahan and Patrick Maag.

Senior David Carbajal, the lone MU thrower in this weekend’s meet, will be looking to post a BIG EAST Conference indoor-qualifying mark of 14.63 meters-or-better in the shot put.

The Grand Valley State University Big Meet will be the final meet for MU before the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 16-17 in Geneva, Ohio.
