NEW YORK - Marquette University junior William Koeck was named the BIG EAST Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week on Tuesday after winning the weight throw at the UW-Parkside Track & Field Classic.
In addition to Koeck's weekly honor, both the Marquette men's and women's track and field teams entered the USTFCCCA's Great Lakes Regional Rankings for the first time this season at No. 15, respectively.
Koeck's toss of 65 feet, 4.75 inches (19.93 meters) at the Frank Petretti Fieldhouse in Kenosha, Wis., was the second-longest mark of his career and the second-best in the BIG EAST in 2013-14. Koeck was just seven inches off of his Marquette program record toss he set on Friday, Jan. 31 at the Jack Jennett Invitational.
The junior also competed in the shot put at UWP and was seventh overall with a personal-best distance of 12.47 meters (40-11).
The Winneconne, Wis., native sits above teammate Bret Hardin on the BIG EAST performance list and the duo has won three of the first four BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week awards in 2013-14.
Hardin captured the first men's award on Jan. 22 while MU long jumper Carlye Schuh and high jumper Omo Tseumah captured the first two weekly women's field awards on Jan. 22 and Jan. 28, respectively.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, Feb. 14 at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
