Track and Field Performances of the Week: Hanson and Winter
Feb. 12, 2013
MILWAUKEE-Senior Kyle Winter and freshman Molly Hanson have been excelling all season on the track, and this week they continued that trend. Their exceptional races on Friday, Feb. 8 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., are this week’s Marquette Track and Field Performances of the Week.
Winter, who has been vying for the program record in the 600-meter run for the last few years, did so in his last attempt at the mark. His time of 1:19.07 was enough to clip the standing program record by .13 seconds, which had been set in 2005.
Hanson has also been steadily making a name for herself in the Marquette record books, albeit in her first collegiate season. Her third-place finish in the mile this weekend was run in 4:52.12, which leaves her with the fifth-fastest mile time in Marquette history.
Both Winter and Hanson have high expectations for the next meet, the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 16. The two of them will look to continue their personal-best performances and help Marquette improve their team standings in the BIG EAST.
Winter, a senior from Wales, Wis., is studying finance, while Hanson hails from Dodgeville, Wis., and is planning to major in journalism.
