Track and Field Set To Compete in GVSU Big Meet

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams return to action for one final tune-up prior to next weekend's BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships when they head to the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich., on Friday, Feb. 14.
Select runners and jumpers will make the trip to the Kelly Family Sports Center on the campus of GVSU. Competition is slated to commence at 10 a.m. Central time when sophomore Patrick Campbell, junior Marc DiVerde and sophomore Blake Lawson participate in the 5,000-meter run. Events are slated to conclude for the Golden Eagles at 6:30 p.m. CT when Glenn Lawrence Jr. competes in the 200-meter run.

Spencer and Parker, along with teammates Nicole Ethier and Katie Kemmerer, set the program record for the distance medley relay with a mark of 11:40.36 at Meyo. That mark broke the previous MU record of 11:41.17, set by the relay team of Jessica Swan, Jeannette Batie, Rachel Kirvan and Brianna Dahm, which won the 2002 Conference USA championship at Indiana.
Freshman Omo Tseumah, who holds the top high jump mark in the BIG EAST Conference at 1.72 meters (5 feet, 7.75 inches), will compete in the same event Friday afternoon.
Senior Spencer Agnew is set to compete in the mile run, and looks to improve upon his personal-best mark of 4:12.14 which he set at the John Tierney Triangular on Jan. 17.
Dallas, Texas-native John Kaplan, who owns the second-best pole vault mark in the conference at 4.75 m (15 feet, 7 inches) will compete in the pole vault at GVSU. Teammate Joel Swanberg will join him in the pole vault, and will additionally compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
After competition at theGVSU Big Meet, MU will head to New York for the 2014 BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 21-22.
