Track and Field Heads to Michigan for GVSU Big Meet

A total of 38 runners and nine jumpers will make the trip to compete in the near 60-team meet. Events will start at 10 a.m. Central time on Friday when the men and women compete in the 5000-meter run. Running events will continue till 7:30 p.m. as the men and women take part in the 4x400-meter relay.
Field events will begin at 1 p.m., with the throwers taking the stage first, while jumping events start at 3 p.m. and continue until the triple jump concludes at 6:30 p.m.
Alec Miller, Aric Miller, Anton Rice, David Sajdak, Ryan Shields and Michael Corr will all compete against each other in the 800-meter run slated for 5:30 p.m. CT, which follows MU sprinters Jnana Martin, Brandon Bell, and Glenn Lawrence Jr. participating in the 60-meter dash.
Cassy Goodrich, who was named BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week from her performance at the Meyo Invitational last weekend, will run in both the 200-meter and 400-meter races.
Both squads are coming off successful weekends at the Meyo Invitation and Parkside Classic. The women's distance medley relay team, comprised of Jessica Parker, Goodrich, Jennifer Parker, and Kellie Greenwood, set a MU program record at the Meyo when they ran a time of 11:32.69 to take home top prize.
Goodrich, a freshman, also had a career performance in the 400-meter run by clocking a time of 55.18 seconds, which is No. 2 all-time in program history and the best time ever by a Marquette freshman.
Rice, Alec Miller and Aric Miller all turned in personal-best performances at Notre Dame. Rice clocked in at 1:52.56, while Aric Miller ran 1:53.13 in the men's 800-meter run. Alec Miller turned in a top-25 performance in the mile run when he finished four laps in 4:10.23.
Following this weekend's action, there is one week separating the team from the BIG EAST Indoor Championship, which will be held on Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Armory in New York City.
