Track & Field's Marion, Howard Sweep BIG EAST Field Athlete Honors

In the season’s final edition of BIG EAST indoor weekly awards, Marion collects her fourth career weekly honor, including her second this season, while Howard picks up his first career award.
Turned in two personal-best performances at the Wisconsin Shell Shocker Meet on Friday. The Aurora, Illinois, native extended her top mark in the BIG EAST in the shot put with a toss of 15.60 meters (51-2.25 feet), which was good third place and No. 2 all-time, falling just 9 centimeters off the school record. It also registered as the 48th-best throw in the nation.
Marion also set a personal-best in the weight throw, taking sixth place with a toss of 17.71 meters (58-1.50 feet) – good for sixth all-time at Marquette. The weight throw mark also ranks third in the BIG EAST standings.
Howard’s big day also included a pair of season-bests, including a personal-best in the weight throw with a mark of 19.08 meters (62-7.25 feet) and ranking fourth all-time at Marquette. It was also good for second place on Friday and improved his BIG EAST-leading mark, which sits just ahead of teammates Brendan McKinney and Austin Stellpflug.
Additionally, Howard placed seventh in the shot put with a season-best mark of 15.35 meters (50-4.50 feet), which was good for seventh place at the meet and improved him to third in the conference standings.
The Golden Eagles are gearing up for the 2018 BIG EAST Indoor Championships which are set to take place at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility in Staten Island, NY this Friday-Saturday, Feb. 23-24.
