NEW YORK – Sophomore thrower Maya Marion has gained momentum heading into the BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championships this weekend after being named the conference’s Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Marion set a personal-best mark in the weight throw at the Red & White Open last Friday, Feb. 19, with a distance of 17.07 meters (56-0 feet). The throw ranked No. 6 all-time at MU and was the fourth-longest throw of the season among BIG EAST competitors.

The Aurora, Illinois native picks up her first weekly honor. This marks the fourth time a Marquette female field athlete has been honored by the BIG EAST as Marion joins Monique Felix (twice) and Gemma Tedeschi to do so this season.
