Feb. 29, 2012

MILWAUKEE - Six members of the Marquette University men's track and field team will return to action at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday, March 3 at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center.

Marquette will be represented by seniors Jack Hackett and James Muehleman, and juniors Cheldon Brown, Evan Ross, Ben Schmitz and Kyle Winter.

Events will begin with the triple jump at 10 a.m. Central Time, while the men's mile run will conclude competition for Marquette at 12:40 p.m.

Winter returns to the track after capturing MU's first BIG EAST Conference indoor title on Feb. 19, by winning the 800-meter run. The junior long-sprinter will look to work on his speed this weekend, participating in the 400 meters for the first time this season.

Schmitz, who has run mostly in the 600-and 1,000-meter runs this season, will compete in the 800 for the first time this year.

Both Hackett and Ross will represent Marquette in the mile. At the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 4, Hackett turned in a personal-best of 4:06.69, earning him first place in the event and the No. 3 spot on MU's all-time list.

Cheldon Brown and James Muehleman will participate in the high jump and triple jump respectively. Brown, who currently ranks No. 5 all-time in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 and 3/4 inches, closed in on his personal-best at the BIG EAST Championships when he completed a jump of 6 feet, 8 and 1/4 inches to finish seventh overall.
