Will Koeck to Compete at NCAA Indoors
March 4, 2014
INDIANAPOLIS – Marquette University junior William Koeck will compete in the men’s weight throw at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 14 in Albuquerque, N.M., the NCAA announced Tuesday evening.
“It has been a great season for Will and he is ready to get to Albuquerque and compete,” said Marquette head track and field coach Bert Rogers. “Qualifying to NCAA Indoors means a lot to Will and it means a lot to our program. This has been a fun season for the team and what better way to cap off such a strong season than Marquette being represented at the highest level.”
Koeck heads to New Mexico as the 2014 BIG EAST Conference champion in the weight throw with a program-record toss of 21.24 meters (69 feet, 8.25 inches).
The Winneconne, Wis., native has four meet victories in the weight throw this indoor season and is No. 11 among all NCAA Division I weight throwers.
Koeck is the first Marquette student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships since Michaela Courtney did so in the women’s mile in 2006. He is also the first member of the men’s squad to participate at the meet since Dan Fax earned All-American honors in the shot put in 1997.
The top 16 accepted entries in each individual event are slated to compete at the Albuquerque Convention Center on March 14-15, while the top 12 teams will participate in each relay event.
Koeck and the rest of the men’s weight throwers will begin competition at 5 p.m. Central time on Friday, March 14.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 14 starting at 6:55 p.m. CT. A tape delay of the championship will air Saturday, March 22 starting at 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
