NEW YORK - The Marquette University men's and women's track & field teams enjoyed their highest finishes at the BIG EAST Conference indoor championships last weekend and, today, were honored with 29 student-athletes earning All-BIG EAST recognition, the league announced.
Junior Wally Ellenson, redshirt-senior Marcell KirkmanBey and sophomore Joel Swanberg were crowned as BIG EAST champions as they highlighted 15male individuals to make the cut. Ellenson broke the BIG EAST standard and earned the top honor for a field athlete at the meet with a high jump mark of 7 feet, 3.25 inches (2.22 meters). He will compete at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas March 13-14. KirkmanBey won the 60-meter hurdles, while Swanberg collected hardware in the pole vault and heptathlon.
On the women's side, a slew of second and third-place finishes highlighted 13female individuals to be recognized as All-Conference performers. Cassy Goodrich was honored in three events, including the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, as well as the 1,600-meter relay. Tatyana Pashibin was also honored in multiple events, finishing in the top-three in the high jump and long jump.
All-BIG EAST was awarded to student-athletes that finished in the top-three of either an individual event or a relay at the indoor track & field championships.
