Throwers Begin Outdoor Season at USF Open

MILWAUKEE - The throwers from the Marquette University men's and women's track and field will begin the outdoor campaign Friday, March 11 at the USF Open in Tampa, Fla.

Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT at the USF Track and Field Stadium with the women's hammer throw and will conclude around 3:30 p.m.

Freshman Bret Hardin and redshirt junior Jon Kusowski will compete for the first time this year after sitting out the indoor season. Hardin was an all-American thrower on the prep level last season and will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Junior National Championships this season. Kusowski is No. 8 on Marquette's all-time hammer throw list with a personal record of 169 feet, 7 inches (51.69).

Robert Bleem and David Carbajal will be MU's sole competitors in the men's discus and will join Kusowski and Hardin in the hammer throw.

On the women's side, Jamie Roth is eighth in MU history in the hammer throw will compete in the discus in addition to the hammer.

Roth is joined by a trio of freshman women in Kristen Gaffey, Kathryn Koeck and Kirsten Walker.
