March 31, 2015
NEW YORK -- Marquette University senior Kathryn Koeck and sophomore John Krzyszkowski were named BIG EAST Conference Field Athletes of the Week following the opening weekend of outdoor competition, the league office announced today, March 31.
Both athletes did a remarkable job representing Marquette down in Texas, taking home wins in their respective events, as the team competed at the annual Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas and Bobcat Invitational at Texas State, March 26-28.
Koeck enjoyed an unforgettable weekend as she set the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 59.79 meters (196-2) to win the Texas Relays. The following day (March 27), the Winneconne, Wisconsin native broke her own record with a toss of 60.16 meters (197-4) at the Bobcat Invitational to win yet again. Two wins in two days to start the outdoor season and she currently holds the BIG EAST's top mark in the event.
Krzyszkowski came up big at the Bobcat Invitational as well, taking first place in the javelin with a distance of 64.51 meters (211-8) to win by more than 15 feet. The Mississauga, Ontario native currently leads the BIG EAST in the event, leaving nearly 20 feet of distance between him and the next closest competitor.
The team will be back in action this weekend at the Big Blue Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois University Friday-Saturday, April 3-4.
