Track & Field Performances of the Week: Koeck and Meyle
April 2, 2013
Each week throughout the 2012-13 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, a men's and women's performance will be highlighted on GoMarquette.com as the Marquette Track & Field Performances of the Week.
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men's and women's track team competed in their first full-squad meet of the outdoor track season over the weekend of March 29-30, with several athletes making their season debut. Two student-athletes, William Koeck and Elisia Meyle, were able to notch notable breakthrough performances at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. Koeck and Meyle's encouraging results are the Marquette Track and Field Performances of the Week.
The sophomore Koeck got the meet started off well in the hammer throw, registering the third-best mark of his young career. His throw of 181 feet, three inches (55.25 meters) was seven inches short of his personal-best and No. 2 all-time mark in outdoor program history, and good enough for third-place overall at the meet.
Meyle, also a sophomore, was impressive from start to finish in her 10,000-meter race, as she led wire-to-wire. Meyle was able to run the rigorous 25-lap test in 36:47.77, which qualifies her for the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Championships in the event. Meyle's victorious time was also good for a new personal-best.
Koeck and Meyle will return to action on Friday, April 5, when the team hosts a dual-meet with cross-town foes Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
