Marquette's Ellenson, Tedeschi Sweep Weekly Field Awards

NEW YORK – Marquette University’s Wally Ellenson and Gemma Tedeschi reeled in BIG EAST weekly honors for the Golden Eagles, sweeping both field categories the league office announced on Wednesday.

Ellenson registered his first official height of the season and his first win at the Drury Hotels Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The Rice Lake, Wisconsin native jump 2.18 meters (7 feet, 1.75 inches), which ranks atop the conference this year, while ranking sixth in the region and 10th nationally.

The senior’s mark was also good enough to qualify him for the NCAA West Regionals in May. 

Tedeschi, a sophomore, also jumped to a first place finish in Missouri with a season-best in the pole vault. Her mark of 3.66 meters (12 feet) is the top mark in the BIG EAST this season. The Palmer Lake, Colorado native is coming off a BIG EAST Indoor championship in the pole vault following a third place finish at outdoors in 2015.

The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend to compete at the Gibson Invite hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana April 8-9.
