NEW YORK- For the second week in a row, Marquette University has swept the men's and women's BIG EAST Conference Field Athlete of the Week accolades as senior Wally Ellenson and freshman Monique Felix claim this week's honors, the league office announced today.
Ellenson tied the school-record and broke the Indiana State facility and meet records en route to winning the high jump competition at the Gibson Invite on Saturday. The Rice Lake, Wisconsin native cleared 2.20 meters (7 feet, 2.5 inches), which ranks fifth-nationally and fourth in the West Region.
Felix broke the freshman school-record, while setting Indiana State facility and meet records with her win in the heptathlon. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin native registered personal-bests in the javelin, shot put, 200-meter, 800-meter and 100-meter hurdle events on the way to setting a career-best score of 4,513, which ranks No. 6 all-time at MU. Her score ranks tops in the BIG EAST and 51st-nationally, while her 100-hurdles time of 15.92 seconds ranks sixth in the BIG EAST this season.
Marquette will be back in action when it takes its annual trip to California for the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational and Long Beach Invitational, which will take place over the course of three days spanning April 14-16.
