Track & Fields Prepares for Weekend Meets in California

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to the Los Angeles, Calif. area to compete in four total meets from Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16: California State Los Angeles Twilight Open, Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and The Beach Invitational.
Goodrich won the 400-meter dash last weekend at the Gibson Invitational with a time of 55.25 seconds.
Thursday’s action at Cal State Los Angeles will continue with running events until approximately 9:30 p.m. CT, where Wally Ellenson will compete in men’s high jump. Ellenson tied his school-record last weekend at the Gibson Invitational with a high jump mark of 2.20 meters (7 feet, 2.5 inches). The jump was a season-best for the senior, who moved up to the No. 5 spot on the national list and received merit as BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week.
The Mt. SAC Relays, taking place at Cerritos College, are slated to begin at 8 p.m. CT on Thursday as well. Two men’s events (3,000-meter steeplechase and 10,000-meter collegiate/open B) will take place before finishing with one women’s (10,000-meter elite invitational).
Finishing Thursday’s action is the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific with the women’s 5,000-meter race featuring Clare McDonald and Kayla Spencer. Competition will continue at the invite Friday as well, with a final schedule to be announced. The Beach Invitational at Long Beach State will conclude action for the weekend with a final schedule also to be announced.
A total of 13 men and 11 women will be making the trip West to compete this weekend, and entries are listed below.

Maxwell Bullard had two personal-bests, both in the hammer throw and shot put. Austin Stellpflug bested his person-best by more than two feet in the shot put as well. William Ford set an outdoor personal-best and now ranks No. 4 at MU all-time in the pole vault with a mark of 4.73 meters/15-6.25 feet.
Following the three-day span in California, Marquette will head to the Illinois Twilight in Champaign, Ill. on Saturday, April 23.
