Golden Eagles Split Squad For Upcoming Weekend
April 14, 2010
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University track and field squads will split up this weekend and head to various meets around the country. With only next weekend's Marquette Twilight standing between them and the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, the Golden Eagles are looking to improve their current standing and record some new BIG EAST qualifying marks.
"Out at Long Beach and Mt. SAC we are looking for some good performances," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We look at these meets as our last big weekend before (the) BIG EAST (Championships), so with training everyone should be in a good spot to do their best and post good marks."
Rogers and assistant coach Mike Nelson will take a group of athletes to California to take part in the Mount San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Thursday and Friday before taking that same group to the VS Athletics Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State in Norwalk, Calif. on Saturday.
Taking the biggest contingent of MU athletes to the Iowa Invitational on Saturday is associate head coach Michael Koenning.
"We also have people ready to post some big marks at Iowa. That should be another meet with good competition. I know that coach Koenning is excited because the throwers had a great week of practice," Rogers said.
