Felix Named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Monique Felix has been named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week after an impressive heptathlon performance in California last weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Felix earns BIG EAST weekly honors for the sixth time in her career, including her second career outdoor award and first this season after taking second place in the heptathlon out of 45 competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays last week.

The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native registered 5,287 points, which was good for third all-time at Marquette. The score also tops the BIG EAST list by a wide margin and ranks 18th in the West Region and 25th nationally. The sophomore recorded personal-bests in four of the seven events, including the 200 meters, 800 meters, long jump and javelin. Her efforts in the latter two cracked the Marquette top-10 lists with a javelin throw (38.75 meters that ranks fifth all-time and a long jump distance (5.78 meters) that is sixth all-time.

Her high jump mark of 1.69 meters ranks atop the BIG EAST this season and is 77th in the West Region.

Felix honor is the third in four weeks for a Marquette women's field athlete this outdoor season and fifth honor overall, joining Terica Harris (March 29, April 4), Daniel Armstrong (March 29) and Will Wolf (April 12).

The BIG EAST also recognized Brittney Feivor and Dwayne Dash Jr. among the league’s notable performances last week.


 

 

Feivor set a new personal-best in the 10,000 meters, taking third place out of 36 competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays with a time of 34:53.06 – the second-fastest time in school history. The time also ranks 39th in the West Region and 75th nationally. Dash flew to a new season-best in the long jump at the Pacific Beach Invite with a mark of 7.37 meters, which ranks second in the BIG EAST and 48th nationally.

Marquette will be back in action on Saturday, April 22 when it heads to Champaign, Illinois to compete at the Illinois Twilight.
