Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK -- Marquette University raked in the weekly accolades for the second week-in-a-row as senior thrower William Koeck and freshman sprinter Cassy Goodrich claimed athlete of the week honors, the league office announced Tuesday, April 21.

Koeck and Goodrich followed up a trio of Golden Eagles to reel in weekly honors a week ago. Both turned in outstanding performances over three days of action out in California last weekend for the Blue & Gold.

Koeck claimed a pair of top-five finishes in the hammer throw, including a toss that earned the top spot in the BIG EAST of 61.18 meters (200-09) to claim fourth place at the Mt. SAC Relays. The distance was a season-best for the Winneconne, Wisconsin native and fell just 2 inches shy of a PR and Marquette record, which he currently holds.

He then followed up that performance with a mark of 56.93 meters (186-09) to take fifth at the Bryan Clay Invite.

Goodrich continued to make her mark on the track in what has been a remarkable rookie season for the Franksville, Wisconsin native. She set the all-time record at Marquette with a time of 24.36 seconds in the 200-meter dash and took seventh place against an elite collection of talent at The Beach Invitational.

She then anchored a 4x400-meter relay team that won the Mt. SAC Relays for the second year-in-a-row. Her split time of just over 53 seconds was a hair faster than her open 400 time of 54.84 seconds, which made her just the second female at Marquette to break 55 seconds. Her time was also good enough to be the all-time freshman record at Marquette and topped the BIG EAST list, while ranking 58th in the West region.

Marquette Track & Field is due for another elite meet as it gets set to take part at the annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
