Track & Field to Compete at Illinois Twilight on Saturday
April 21, 2017
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to the University of Illinois to compete in the Illinois Twilight on Saturday, April 22.
The team will send a total of 18 women and 14 men to the meet with the distance runners taking the week off to rest. Competition will begin with field events at 3 p.m. Central time, followed by running events at 4 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off strong performances from last weekend in Southern California, where they competed in four meets. Sophomore Monique Felix received BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week honors for the sixth time in her career and first of the season after her notable heptathlon performance where she set four personal-bests on the way to recording the third-highest score all-time.
For the third week in a row, the men’s 4x100-meter relay team broke the school record, running faster than 41 seconds for the first time in school history at the Mt. SAC Relays last week. They will rest up this week before taking another crack at the record at the Drake Relays.
Following Saturday’s competition at the Illinois Twilight, the team will have two weeks before the highly-anticipated 2017 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and will head to the Drake Relays (April 27-29) and UW-Whitewater Alternative (April 29) meets.
