Benedictine: Meet Info

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams embark on a weekend of competition that features one of the top outdoor events in the country in the Drake Relays, which will take place in Des Moines, Iowa over three days beginning on Thursday, April 23. Others will partake in the Benedictine Twilight Invitational Friday evening, April 24.

Head coach Bert Rogers and his coaching staff will send 23 athletes to the Drake Relays, which is celebrating its 106th running of the event that started in 1906. Thursday's action will be highlighted by the men's 4x1600-meter relay that features Ryan Shields, Aric Miller, William Hennessy and Cody Haberkorn in running order. Brittney Feivor will also compete in the women's 5,000-meter run before the first day concludes.

Friday's action will lead off with preliminary races for the women's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays, followed by finals for the men's and women's 4x800-meter relays. The women's 4x400 relay team of Arra Strong, Anna Strong, Katie Tolan and Cassy Goodrich are coming off a big win at the Mt. SAC Relays a week ago and will once again see a collection of elite talent that the Drake Relays draws annually. Goodrich, who is coming off a BIG EAST Female Track Athlete of the Week award after last week's impressive string of performances, has emerged as one of the league's top freshmen.

The final day of competition will feature big name field athletes led by junior Wally Ellenson, who will look to bounce back from a disappointing week at the Bryan Clay Invitational, at least for his standards, as he managed a jump of 6 feet, 8.25 inches, which was still good enough to take second place. He jumped an outdoor season-best height of 7 feet, 2.25 inches to place second in the season's opening meet at the Texas Relays.

Reigning BIG EAST Male Field Athlete of the Week William Koeck will lead the throwers into the final day. Joining him in the hammer throw will be Bret Hardin on the men's side and Kathryn Koeck and Samantha Kennedy on the women's side.

More than 40 athletes will make the trip a couple hours South to compete at the Benedictine Twilight. Field events will begin with the hammer, discus and pole vault at 1 p.m., while running events will get started at 4 p.m. at the Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Illlinois.

Marquette will compete at Purdue next week in the final tune-up leading into the 2015 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at Villanova May 8-9.
