MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to Madison to take part in the Wisconsin Alumni Classic on Friday, May 5, which will serve as the teams’ final tune-up before next week’s 2017 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships at Villanova.

The Golden Eagles will send 73 student-athletes combined between the men’s and women’s programs to Friday’s meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin. Field events will begin with the women’s hammer followed by the men at 2 p.m. and running events are scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. with the men’s and women’s 100-meter hurdles.

The Golden Eagles are coming off strong performances at the Drake Relays and UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet last week. Highlighting action was the men’s 4x100-meter relay (Joshua Word, Jay Whalen, Connor Boos, Brandon Bell), which turned in its best finish in over 60 years, taking fifth place overall. The same foursome turned in the second-fastest time in school history and placed fourth in the 4x200-meter relay, the highest Marquette finish since 1953.

In addition, Brittney Feivor made history in the 5,000 meters, shattering the Marquette all-time record by 5 seconds and taking 13th place overall with a time of 16:27.03.

Following Friday’s action, the Golden Eagles will head to Villanova to defend their respective men’s and women’s 2016 team titles at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, which are set to take place Friday-Saturday, May 12-13.
