Track & Field Performances of the Week: Brown and Schuh
May 8, 2013
Each week throughout the 2012-13 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, a men's and women's performance will be highlighted on GoMarquette.com as the Marquette Track & Field Performances of the Week.
MILWAUKEE - Impressive efforts by junior Carlye Schuh and senior Cheldon Brown at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships are highlighted as this week's Marquette Track and Field Performances of the Week.
Schuh, a long jump, triple jump and short sprints specialist, continued to build on her successful outdoor season. The Appleton, Wis., native once again broke her own program long jump record for the second meet in a row with a distance of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches (6.13 meters). Her clutch jump was good enough for second place, the best finish by a Marquette athlete at the meet, missing the victory by only one centimeter.
In the men's high jump, Brown was able to battle adversity in the form of a strong headwind en route to a fourth-place finish with a leap of 6 feet, 8 1/4 inches (2.04 meters). On a day where high jump athletes were compromised considerably by the elements, the Springfield, Ill., native pushed through to jump close to his season's best, and tie for the most individual points for the men's program, shared with two others.
Schuh and Brown's seasons are not over yet, even with the completion of conference action. For Schuh, the West Preliminary Rounds of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas, will undoubtedly be in her future, and the same is not out of the question for Brown, who plans to jump at least one more meet and could possibly qualify.
